What is URL Redirect and how does it work?

URL Redirect (sometimes known as URL Forwarding) is a technique which can be used to redirect a domain to another URL which is either too long or too hard to remember for a web user. When you set up the URL Redirect option for a domain at TS.io, it redirects anyone who visits your website to the proper location of your web server in order to access the website files.

There are two types of forwarding you can use to do this:

Frame (Cloaking)

This retains the original domain in the address bar and it will not reveal or display the actual destination URL. If you are forwarding example.ts.io to TS.io, the address bar will say example.ts.io.

Redirect (HTTP 302 forwarding)

This does not retain the original domain in the address bar, so the user would see it change and realize they were forwarded. If you are forwarding example.ts.io to TS.io, the address bar will say TS.io.

How do I set up a URL redirect for a domain?

You can set up a URL redirect to forward your subdomain (e.g., http://de.ts.io) to any destination page of your choice. Usually, when you set up a URL redirect for a domain, it takes 5 minutes to take effect.

To set up a URL redirect, follow these steps:

Step 1: Navigate to your Dashboard

First, open your dashboard to see the list of your domains.

Step 2: Open the Domain Management Tools

Choose your domain you want to edit, on the right side you will see a button with a wrench as a symbol. Click on the button and a dialog to edit the domain will open.

Step 3: Edit your URL

Enter a URL to forward your domain to, leave blank to disable. Select the forward method you prefer.

To save your changes, click Update Domain.
